A place for every body.

Welcome to the November update! The steel is up, and for the first time you can stand inside the rooms we’ve been praying for and imagining together.

This month we’re going back to why RENEW began: making sure every body — every age and every ability — can get in the door and into the life of our church.

Why we started here

The step that was a wall

For most of us, the stairs were just stairs. For a grandparent with a walker, a neighbor in a wheelchair, or a mom with a stroller, a single step was a wall. And once inside, there was no room that really fit our kids, our youth, or a crowd staying for lunch.

RENEW changes both. An elevator opens every floor to everyone, whatever their age or ability. And inside there will finally be a place for each of us: first-floor classrooms for our youngest, a room of their own for the youth group, and a gathering space for Grace Groups, classes, Sunday lunches and neighbors. A way in for every body, and a place for every body once they’re here.

Come as you are — and we mean every body.

Imagine a Sunday with us

The frames are up. Here is what the rooms are for.

Rolling straight in. A friend who uses a wheelchair arrives, rides the elevator, takes a seat in the sanctuary and joins everyone for coffee.
Kids in one secure space. Our youngest are dropped off in a bright new children’s wing — one secure space, built with their safety in mind — and their parents head into worship without a second thought.
A room of their own. Our middle and high schoolers gather in a youth space that is actually theirs, instead of the church foyer.
Room to gather. Grace Groups, adult classes, Sunday lunches and neighborhood events spill into a gathering space built for them — with a green space outside where the kids can run.

Chase sat down with us to talk about life at Grace, the step that used to be a wall, and what a Sunday at the new 440 Ridge could look like when the doors open.

Fun questions, quick answers

We took RENEW out of the building and onto the sidewalk with one question: if you could add one thing to the church building, what would it be? Watch for some familiar faces.

Ninety seconds. Press play.

What are you dreaming about for the new space?

Tell us in a sentence or two. We’d love to share some of your answers in a future update.

November Building Update

Before and after, corner by corner.

Each board below pairs where a space started with where it stands today — and the steps in between. Select any board to view it larger, then click again to zoom in.

North Addition progress board: before in July, the site dug out along the existing building with the first wood forms set; after at the end of October, both floors standing and wrapped in sheathing with window openings for the new offices and classrooms. Around the addition: new foundation walls, second-floor framing, pink insulation board, the poured first-floor slab, and an old wall of the existing building opened up Sanctuary progress board: from the balcony in July, red carpet and the original chancel; the same view now with the carpet up and a new platform framed at the front. Around the sanctuary: wood framing for the new platform and its curved steps, scaffolding at the front wall where the arched opening is uncovered, the old carpet rolled up, new board filling the arched opening, and the patched front wall seen from the pews South Hall progress board: at the start of October, steel laid out on the gravel ready to go up; by the end of October the two-story steel frame stands against the existing building with sheathed walls and window openings. Around the South Hall: framed walls rising around the slab, upper-level floor beams, blue-sheathed exterior walls, the framed connection to the existing building, and the new poured-concrete youth basement with its window wells

Check back the first week of each month for the latest RENEW update as we watch our renewed church home take shape.
